How to Monetize Your Expertise with a Monthly Membership

 

One-off projects are great. Until they’re not.

 

They burn time, require new onboarding every single time, and leave you guessing about cash flow.

 

The feast and famine story is one I've heard way too often from my own community members. 

 

In this email I'll show you how to turn your expertise into a subscription service your audience will be happy to pay for.

 

Whether you’re a consultant, coach, or creative, there’s a way to turn your brainpower into recurring revenue. Let’s break it down.

 

🔧 Step 1: Don’t Repeat—Repurpose

 

Subscriptions aren’t about slapping a price tag on what you already do.


Charging an ongoing fee means you have to deliver ongoing value in a way that makes sense for you and your client.

 

Example:

  • Coach? → Offer strategy calls + async support + goal tracking.

  • Designer? → Offer creative sprints + asset banks + unlimited tweaks (with limits).

  • Consultant? → Offer insights on tap + mini projects + progress audits.

🧠 Start with the question: What do my best clients always ask for… again and again? That’s your core offer.

 

💼 Step 2: Build Tiers With Clear Boundaries

 

Keep it simple.

 

No “custom everything.” Create 2–3 levels that scale cleanly:

You’re not here to chase invoices.

Set up:

  • Stripe or Outseta for payments

  • Zapier to automate onboarding (Notion, Slack, email)

  • A calendar that’s only bookable once someone’s paid

🎯 Rule of thumb: If it can be automated, do it.

 

💡 Step 4: Make It Easy to Stay (and Easy to Go)

 

Here’s the secret: clients stick around when they see progress.

So show them:

  • Monthly “here’s what we did” reports

  • Quick Loom updates

  • Dashboards or scorecards with wins

👀 Also: let people pause or downgrade easily. Lock-in contracts aren’t the vibe. Retention comes from real value, not fine print.
