Jerry Seinfeld’s productivity hack and the streaks app

I just came across this very interesting article on the lifehacker website and was reminded of the Streaks app – something I’ve been meaning to share with you for a long time!

In this article Brad Issac talks about how he once met Jerry Seinfeld backstage and asked him the secret to his great material.

Jerry said the way to be a better comic was to create better jokes. And the way to create better jokes was to write every day. To pressure himself to do this Jerry had a big yearly wall calendar.

Each day day that Jerry wrote he put a big X against that day. “After a few days you’ll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You’ll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain.”

So there you have it. The secret to Seinfeld’s productivity.

Enter Streaks … an iPhone app that allows you to put that big red X against each day … and motivates you to keep the streak going. So you don’t break the chain!

I have been using streaks for 66 days now and can testify to the power of the practice! It really works. The longer the streak the deeper the habit and the more you are likely to stick to it!

Key Benefits:

  • Multiple calendars for multiple goals
  • Icon badge denotes current streak of first calendar
  • Track your current, longest and past streaks
  • Add personal notes to each day
  • Great for writing, exercising, quitting smoking and any good habit you want to cultivate.

iTunes rating: 4.5  ; PI rating: 5

Get the Streaks app at the iTunes store for $1.99

Note: The equivalent app on the Android is called Habit Streak
